* Become a web hosting provider
VPS gives you the opportunity to become a web hosting provider. cPanel or Plesk are comprehensive control panel through which you could start your own web hosting company. A virtual private server gives you the freedom to install third party applications or software of your choice.

You may already have a linux or windows reseller hosting plan or a full fledge linux windows dedicated web server elsewhere, but what if this goes down for any period of time. A MX server or backup DNS will make your infrastructure more resilient and your domains will continue to resolve and mail won’t bounce. You can install DNS and Mail services into your VPS, including Bind, Postfix, Qmail, Sendmail and more
* Personal Game Server
You will be able to install and run games software into your VPS. cPanel and Plesk control panels now have server support for games softwares.
Virtual Private Servers (VPS) Hosting Containers perform exactly like a stand alone dedicated web server, and has its own users, applications and processes, can be rebooted independently. Its has its own root/administrator access, users, IP addresses, memory, processes, files, applications, system libraries and configuration files. VPS hosting is based on the concept of partitions on mainframes that allow dozens of divisions to run multiple applications on the same server with advanced resource scheduling.

Q. How do I prepare Plesk for migration?
Ans: 1. All Plesk components that you wish to use have to be installed on the destination server. For example if the source server has Postgres or Mailman, these packages must be on the destination server, otherwise these components’ data will not be migrated and you get the list of errors after migration is completed.
2. Plesk license on the destination server also must meet all requirements that exist on the source server.
3. Enable “Server->Mail-> Only use of full POP3/IMAP mail accounts names is allowed”.
4. Configure Mailman on the Server->Set Up Mailman, otherwise mailing lists will not be created during migration.
5. Check that there is enough free disk space to make dump on the source server. It should be the same amount as data size you wish to migrate.
Destination server must contain free disk space at least twice the size of the data being migrated. It is needed to store the dump on the destination server and extract data from it.
6. Make sure that the default MySQL character set is ‘latin1′. This encoding is used by Mysql by default, however if it was redefined in /etc/my.cnf, it is better to switch it back to avoid the problems with database restoration.
Current default characters set can be found with:
# mysql -uadmin -p`cat /etc/psa/.psa.shadow` -e ’status’ | grep characterset
Server characterset: latin1
Db characterset: latin1
Client characterset: latin1
Conn. characterset: latin1

Q. How do I manage my DNS records?
Ans: There are 2 ways to manage DNS records on a VPS hosting.
1) Use the Plesk control panel. This will actually utilize a DNS server on your own VPS. If you choose to use this method, you must use your server IP when registering domains. You will also only have a single Name Server rather than the minimum of 2 that is recommended.
2) Use the HSP control panel (Recommended). This has the benefit of having 2 Name Servers and is totally independent of your VPS, which frees up resources on your VPS.
It is recommend that the HSPcomplete control panel is the primary choice, rather than the Plesk control panel for DNS management.
